What is a Living Wage

A Living Wage is more than a minimum wage-It is a wage that a worker must earn in order to adequately provide the basic necessities for themselves.  This includes food, housing, utilities, transportation and health care without outside assistance from public benefits programs.  A Living Wage for a family head of household would include basic necessities for the family including child care.

"Adequately provide" is important.  The poverty line is set so low that a family would need an income roughly 200% of the poverty line to"adequately provide" for their basic needs.
